Author of My Story

She said it in passing, not pausing before continuing her thought. I stopped her. This was “write it down” worthy. She repeated it:

“I don’t want to be known for my story; I want to be known for the Author of my story.”

Peace in the broken pieces. Gifts in the wilderness. Boasting in weakness because that’s where the strength is.

I have scars- some visible, some buried deep within. And since scars tell stories, I have stories. Lots of them. Friends that have betrayed. Jobs that were lost. Dreams that were shattered. I am a victim of sexual assault. I am divorced. I am a single mom. But I don’t want to be known by any of those things; they don’t define me. I wear their scars because they are pieces of my story, but they are only pages in a big book that God is writing. I don’t want to be known as a victim or a divorcee. I want God to be known as the One who put broken pieces back together in a more beautiful way than I ever could have. I want God to be seen in the details of healing.

This morning in my ladies group at church, our teacher went around the circle to each one of us saying how she has seen God work for good in our lives since the class began. Sometimes it’s so hard to see in your own life when you’re living in the middle of it, so it was a blessing to hear someone point it out. None of us want to be defined by the stories of our lives that have broken us, but all of us want to be known for the awesome works God has done through those broken pieces.

Do me a favor? If you see God working in someone’s life, please tell them. If you see how’s He moved in mine, tell me. Let’s brag on the Author of our stories together.

My dear friend, I have seen the mighty hand of The Author on your life and your response to His hand in so many ways. I have watched you continually grow through every bump that has been in your path.
