Page By Page, Chapter By Chapter

No one else gets to hold the pen to the writing of my story. Some may try-and have- but it’s mine to hold. And while God has allowed some things to happen that I never would have chosen to include in my story, how I react and respond to each of those heartaches moves the pen across the blank pages and jots the details chapter by chapter.

And you know what? The only person I’m destined to become is the person I decide to be. So this Advent season, I’m staring at a blank page with anticipation, asking God to write it better than I ever could.

Every end is a new beginning.

So here’s how I am deciding to write on the current page of my life: I am strong. I am resilient. I am enough. I am exactly who God created me to be. My worth and value and inheritance are found in You alone, Lord. So write the pages of my life. Fill each line with You. I will rise because that’s what warriors do, and I am Your warrior. Do I know what the next chapter holds? No, but I do know Who holds me. So I won’t put down the pen, and I certainly won’t allow someone else to pick it up and write my story for me.

I am walking proof that you can have your soul torn in half and still navigate through life. I know the days of celebrating the simple fact that I breathed in and I breathed out all. day. long. I know my fair share of betrayal and abuse and divorce and deceit and slander.

Here’s one thing I’ve learned through it all:

At your lowest, you will be too much for some people; those aren’t your people.

The people who run in when others run out, those are your people. The people who stay connected even when they don’t know how to fix it, those are your people. The people who stand by you, they’re your people.

Although the things I’ve been through have shaped me into the person I am today, I am not defined by my story, and neither are you by yours. You may know a chapter of my story, but there were pages written before you, and there are many pages yet to be written. So I turn the page, and I keep writing. And I smile at those who have proven to be my people along the way.
